Introduction

You and your friends have been given a $100,000 and you choose to donate it all to ONE non-profit organization.  The question is which organization will you choose? Your job is to investigate three non-profit organizations’ websites based on the non-profit’s presentation, the mission statement, and the organization’s value to you and your friends.  Choose which organization you will donate your money to and give reasons as to why they deserve your $$DONATION$$.

Task

COMPARE and CONTRAST three of the below non-profit organization’s websites* listed below for the non-profit’s visual and personal appeal/presentation, donation information, mission statement, and their overall effectiveness in the community.  Prioritize why your group would give money to that specific non-profit organization. Based on your personal values and the information provided on the organization’s homepage, develop a 1-minute commercial as a group taking a position on why you and your friends are supporting this organization over the other two non-profit groups you will research.

Process

  1. You will be assigned to groups of three.
  2. Each individual with your team will research one of the non-profit organizations listed above.  Look for information on how to donate to the non-profit’s cause, their mission statement, the history or reason why the organization was founded, and their impact on your community.
  3. Re-group and advocate to your group why YOUR non-profit organization should be the one to receive the $100,000 donation.
  4. After choosing the non-profit organization, create a 1-minute audio or visual commercial discussing your group’s organization and persuade other people to donate their money and/or time to that non-profit organization.  Please include your research of the non-profit’s cause, their mission, their history, the reason why the organization was founded, and their impact on your society.
  5. We will put it to a VOTE!  The class will decide on which organization to donate their money to based on the persuasiveness of your one-minute commercial.

Conclusion

So what did you find out about yourself?  Are all non-profit organizations good for our community?  How easy is it to give donations to the groups you researched?  Has this assignment stirred a desire in you to help people from your community?  If so, how?  If not, why not?

Remember:  The power of one individual can have a significant impact on their society….even a small donation of your time, money and/or both can help in the research and personal accounts the non-profit is involved with annually. As a citizen, you have the right to become involved with a cause that has affected you personally.   It is your job to participate in a non-profit organization and/or charity.  So the question remains…what can you do to help out around your community?
