Introduction:

You have noticed that many of your peers have started to abuse drugs and alcohol.   Though you realize that this is dangerous, you are not sure how to convey these to your schoolmates.  You come to the conclusion that an expert is needed, but who could you find that they would listen to…  How about you?

Task

In this project you will become the expert.  You will need to research several different aspect of drug and alcohol abuse and create a presentation of the consequences that would be suitable to show your peers.  Your presentation will need to include information on your drug of choice that must cover:

*      What feelings the drug creates in a user

*      A definition of the drug

*      Side effects and dangers of the drug including overdose, addiction etc.

*      Legal consequences that could arise from being caught with the drug or under the effects of that drug

*      Process of overcoming addiction including local resources

In Addition, you need to find a real world example of the consequences of this drug; this can be a news article or narrative.

As part of this task you must include information listed above, visual aids (this could include power point, overheads, posters etc.), and a brochure or newsletter with facts and statistics that are interesting and informative.

Process

In groups of 3-4 will be assigned one of the following drugs:

Ecstasy

Cocaine

Alcohol

Marijuana

Crystal-Meth

Using the resources provided (you are welcome to find your own as well, but please let me know if you do so that I can approve the site), you will research the drug you were assigned.  Once you have all of the research needed you will create an entertaining and informational presentation that would be part of a presentation suited for your peers.

Please remember that you will be presenting this as an expert, so professionalism is a must.  Drug abuse is a serious subject, with serious consequences I expect you to create a serious presentation.  Also don’t forget to cite all sources used.
