INTRODUCTION:

You are a dietician, whose job is to evaluate people’s current diets and help them to build new diets to suit their dietary needs according to their situations.  You will be evaluating a specific person’s diet and helping them make a diet that is more suitable for the lifestyle they lead.

 

THE TASK:

 

*     You will be given the Nutritional Backgrounds on four different people.  Your job is to pick one of the following people and evaluate their diets.  You will be making the person you choose a sample week long menu to help them start changing their diet according to their needs.

 

*     I will be providing you with some of the websites you will need to complete this project:  You may look up more if you would like to

 

*     You will be designing 3 meals a day for five days:  Breakfast, Lunch, & Dinner

 

*     You will be turning in your week long menu for your customer

 

 

The People

Bobby

*    Age: 16

*    Basketball Player

*    Problem: Gained a little too much weight over the summer and needs to trim a few pounds before practice starts for the season

*    Current Weight: 175 lbs.

*    Goal Weight: 166 lbs.

 

Kellie

*   Age:  21

*   College Student/Bartender

*   Problem:  Working at a bar, Kellie feels as though she has gained weight from the types of alcohol she drinks at work every night, and would like to know some healthier alternatives to beer and pretzels.

*   Goal: To shed a few pounds and find some healthier foods and drinks than the ones she is having at work.

 

Matt

*   Age: 54

*   Lawyer/Dad

*   Problem:  Between Matt’s busy schedule at the law office and making  time to spend with his family Matt has become morbidly obese.  Matt feels bad that he can’t run around with his kids any longer, but he just doesn’t know how he can trim his eating habits when he is always on the go.  Matt thinks that McDonald’s and Burger King are the only restaurant’s that can serve his meal fast enough when he is shuffling between the office and court.  Please help Mattt choose some healthier alternatives.

*   Current weight: 300lbs.

*   Goal weight:  215 lbs.

 

Emma

*   Age: 73

*   Grandma

*   Problem:  Emma at the ripe young age of 73 just had her first heart attack.  She currently is at a desirable weight and went walking or swimming every day before she had her heart attack.  Emma’s diet consists of cigarette’s (at least a pack a day), baked goods, and fried foods.  Please help Emma figure out a way to make her diet healthier so she can retain her youthfulness.

 

                                                                                                

THE PROCESS:

 

1)                       You will choose one of the people offered to evaluate.

 

2)                     Once you have chosen a person to evaluate you are going to start looking at websites that will help you pick a new diet for them.

 

3)                     After you have made a new diet for your subject, make a sample menu for a week.  Along with your sample menu, please turn in your findings and recommendations for your subject.

CONCLUSION

 

Upon completion of this project, you the student should have better understanding of how to help improve a person’s diet so that they can live a healthier lifestyle.  This project will also hopefully make you think to take a second look at your lifestyle to see if you are as “fit” and “healthy” as you think you are.
